USS Los Angeles SubmarineDID YOU KNOW?
Submarines of the Los Angeles Class are among
the most advanced undersea vessels of their
type in the world. The nuclear power plant
gives these ships the ability to remain submerged
for weeks. During this time the ship is provided with equipment to replenish
oxygen used by the crew, and remove carbon
dioxide and other air-born contaminants. It is equipped
with two distilling plants which convert salt water
to fresh water for drinking, washing and the
propulsion plant. The ship carries enough
food to feed the crew of over 100 for as long
as 3 months. Each submarine costs about $1
billion dollars and $21,000,000 to operate
each year. This 19 1/2 inch by 15 3/4 inch hardwood
framed picture, with 3 colored mats, consists of
a submarine patch (USS Los Angeles-SSN 688)
and a gold tone submarine emblem. Pictured on
the maxicard is a Los Angeles Class Nuclear
Attack Submarine along with a picture of the
US Department of Navy seal. There are 3 submarine
postage stamps also included in this picture.
